Good Movies 4

Today I'm starting a thread on some of my favorite directors. Since Chris Nolan latest film has just came out, I'm starting with him. The movie I recomend today is his first film: "Following"
What's good about it?
It's a descent thriller, and an introduction to the way the director cuts the time structure of his films. Can get slow from time to time, but it presents many aspects that will be present on his following films, like giving a clue of the resolution on the first picture of the movie.
Who may like it?
I would say, male adult audience, specially if you liked other Nolan's films.
My advise
This one is special for those interested on following the work of this director, starting with the less known of his films.

Good Music Video and Short 10

Since yesterday there was no music video, today I'm posting both a video and a short: First, coming back to our old friend Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails's singer), this is one of his newest works: Immigrant song, the cover of the Led Zepellin's song, for "The girl with the dragon tattoo" soundtrack:

Good movies 3

I'm changing "cool" for "good" since I'm not 12 anymore...
This time, a recent french comedy, "Intouchables" by Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano.
What's good about it?
The main characters. They make a great couple. And the fact that is based on a real story.
Who may like it?
Anyone over 15 years old, but I guess an adult audience may apreciate it more.
My advise
Is better not to know anything about it before watching, since the first scene generates an intrigue that is no good if you know what the story is about. Should be enough to know that it was a success, with over 13 million viewers worldwide, and it's a good oportunity to see what's produced outside of Hollywood, but with a classic structure.

Cool Shorts 9

Retaking what was a thread to honor the National Film Board of Canada, I wanted to present someone who has a life pass in this institution: Norman McLaren. Due to the vast of his work, and that he was an unstoppable innovator, it's hard to choose one work, that's why I grabbed one short almost ramdomly: Pas de Deux.

So many posts about Nine Inch Nails, reminded me of this emblematic band of the so called new metal: Korn, with this awkward animation for his music video "Right now".

Cool Movies 2

Today I recommend the best movie I've seen this year: We need to talk about Kevin, directed by Lynne Ramsay. 

1. What's good about it?
The way it takes you through the subjectivity of the main character, taking place from a point of view nobody wants to see (In a way, it reminds me to The woodsman)
2. Who may like it?
In this case is more for cinema and art fans. If you don't see anything that doesn't comes from Hollywood, this is not your movie.
3. My advise
It was worth to see it in the theater, so try watching it with no interruptions. It doesn't change you anything to know about the plot beforehand, it's not what it tells but how it tells it what's important.

Since I just started this blog as a continuity of the spanish version, let me explain this entry: every saturday I share what I consider a cool music video, that's been going on for two months now, so this is the 8th time. This one is the last of a Nine Inch Nails thread, Closer, from the album "The downward spiral". This entry should have been published yesterday, but, i promise it'll be on time next Thursday:
Today's recommendation will be "Stranger than fiction", directed by Marc Forster, starring Will Farrell, Emma Thompson and Dustin Hoffman.
1. What's good about it?
The script. It has an original way to interact the narrative instance with the story (there's a character who is the narrator). It's interesting enterteiment.
2. Who may like it?
Adult audience, over 20 years old, no genre distinction, looking for enterteinment with a higher creative "flight". No need to be a critic to enjoy it.
3. My advise
Good couples movie, when in need of distraction. Try not to know anything about the story before seeing it, it's better that way.
